The Purpose Behind the IDMC

The IDMC was created with a clear mission: to protect the integrity of down and feather industry by taking action against trademark infringements and false labeling. Accurate labeling isn’t just a regulatory requirement—it’s essential for maintaining consumer trust and ensuring fair competition. Misleading claims harm both consumers and legitimate businesses, putting the industry’s reputation at risk.

The IDMC is supported by an alliance of key global organizations, including the China Feather and Down Industrial Association (CFDIA), European Down and Feather Association (EDFA), Japanese Down and Feather Association (JDFA), American Down and Feather Council (ADFC), and the International Down and Feather Bureau (IDFB).

Tackling Counterfeit Labels

One of the biggest challenges facing the down and feather industry today is the use of counterfeit labels. Products falsely claiming to be down are increasing on online platforms, while in reality, they are filled with low-cost low-quality materials such as down fiber and feather fiber. These deceptive practices not only cheat consumers but also undercut legitimate businesses and disrupt fair competition.

This problem extends beyond China’s domestic market—it affects the global e-commerce landscape. The IDMC is determined to stop these practices and ensure that only genuine, high-quality down and feather products reach consumers.

Global Collaboration and Action

Since its creation, the IDMC has shown its commitment to protecting the market. The committee played a key role in resolving a major trademark infringement case, where a company was required to correct its illegal activities. This case highlighted the power of effective industry oversight.

The committee holds regular meetings including industry leaders from EDFA, ADFC, IDFB, CFDIA, and JDFA who gather to discuss solutions for strengthening the down market’s health and sustainability. A key takeaway from these discussions was that tackling fraud requires a unified, international approach. The IDMC also works closely with independent third-party testing institutes to ensure that all products meet the highest standards of quality and authenticity. The IDMC is already making an impact, and it’s just getting started!

Looking Ahead

As the fight against fraud continues, the IDMC remains committed to transparency and collaboration. The International Down and Feather Bureau’s (IDFB) Public Relations Committee (PRC) will serve as a hub for sharing updates and progress, ensuring that industry professionals and consumers alike stay informed.

The IDMC’s formation is a major step forward for the global down and feather industry, and there’s much more to come. We thank the CFDIA for spearheading this initiative and uniting the international community in this crucial endeavor.
